               (Color of your choice.)

  • Split Key Ring Plastic Pony Beads (optional)

  1. Cut Cord into 2- 24" pieces.
  2. Fold one length of cord creating a loop at one end. Leave one end 9" long and one end 15" long.
  3. Guide loop end of cord through key ring.
  4. Draw ends of cord through loop and pull tight (See illustration 1)

    Weaving cord
    Helpful hint
: Hang key ring on a nail or hook or tape to work surface to weave. This will make it easier to see the lengths of cord and the pattern in your weave.

  6. Lay the left outside cord over the two center cords (see illustration 3)

  7. Lay the right outside cord over the left cord (see illustration 4 ).

  8. Guide the right cord under the left cord and center cords and through the opening on the left side (see illustration 5).

  9. Pull outer cords tight so that knot is close to the key ring.

  10. Lay the right outside cord over the center cords (see illustration 6)

  11. Lay the left cord over the right cord (see illustration 7)

This is your first completed square knot.

  12. Guide the left cord under the right cord and center cords and through the opening on the right side. Pull tight again (see illustration 8)

  13. Continue steps 6 - 12 for a total of 9 square knots

  14. Tie all cord ends together with one final knot. You may want to glue this knot for added strength.

Options:  You may add beads by threading them onto the center cords. Tie two square knots then add a bead. Continue to alternate the weave and beads. Each bead replaces 2 square knots.
