Materials:
  • 1 ball (2oz./350yds) of DMC's Traditions art. 145 size 10 in Navy #5336
  • 1 ball (2oz./350yds) of DMC's Traditions art. 145 size 10 in White

  • 1 Charm or Decorative button

  • #7 Steel Crochet Hook

Size: Purse approx. 3" x 3" square (without fringe)
Guage: 8sts/6 rows = 1"

Instructions:

Body:
Rnd1
: R.S. With Navy, ch52. Hdc in 4th ch from hook,*sk1 ch, hdc- ch 1 hdc in next ch,  repeat from* across. Being careful not to twist, joinw/sl st in 3rd chof starting ch 4.

Rnd 2: Sl st in ch 1 sp, ch 3-hdc in sp, *hdc-ch 1-hdc in next ch 1 sp, repeat from * around. Join w/slst in 2nd ch of starting ch 3.

Repeat Rnd 2 for 3" or desired length. End of  Navy.

Flap:

Row 1:
R.S. with White, attach in ch 1 sp (next to joining), ch 4-dc in sp, (dc-ch 1-dcin next ch 1sp) 11 times.

Row 2&3:Sl st in ch 1 sp, ch 4-dc in sp, *dc-ch 1- dc in next sp repeat from * across. Turn.

Row 4:Sl st in ch 1 sp, ch 2-dc-ch 1-dc in next ch 1 sp,(dc-ch -dc in next sp) 8 times, dc-ch 1 in next ch 1 sp, dc dec over 2 ch 1 sps(=dc in same sp holding last 2 lps onhook, dc in last ch 1 sp holding last lp on hook, yo & through all lps). Turn.

Row 5-7: Repeat Row 4 working one less pattern at each side for flap shaping.

Row 8: Sl st in ch 1 sp, ch 2-dc-ch 1-dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 5(= Button hole), dc-ch 1-dc dec. Turn. Do not end off.

Trim:Work sc evenly spaced around flap & top of purse opening. Join w/sl st in starting sc. End off.

Finishing:

A.
With Navy, sl st across lower purse to close, Do not turn or end off. Ch 3, * sk 1 sl st, reverse sl st in next sl st-ch 2, repeat from & across End Off.

B. Fringe: Cut 2 Lengths of Navy Cotton 12" each. Holding tog, Make twisted cord. Opening up the "closed" end of cord, fringe in ch 2 sp on lower end of purse. Overhand knot 1/2" down from attachment, overhand knot 1/2" down from previous knot, & trim 1/2" down from last knot. Allow ends to fray below last knot. Repeat this process across lower edge of purse.

C. Neck Chain: Cut 3 lengths of navy cotton 4 yds. each. Holding tog, make twisted cord. Overhand knot 5" from end & at every 5" across. Knot ends tog between 2 end knots. Trim to 1" from last knot.

D. Sew on Button or charm.
